Today's the birthday of a special and fairly longtime LJ friend, Pat |
twinner|. It's strange how we can make friends across the distances because of the wonders of the internet - I suppose it could be simply taken as the next level of penpals and such. Happy Birthday, Pat!
Well, I survived the week and am now trying to do as little as usual. This seems to be fast becoming a weekly habit. Ugh. No matter how much I think about it, my desire to party, go clubbing and drinking gets slapped down by my concerns over our finances and the need to be smart about how we spend. I'll never understand why I keep denying myself the ability to just, well, let go every now and again. And of course my natural course of action in reaction to this thought is to think about it even more and probably lock myself further into this budgetary lock-down.
Ugh, time to change subjects or something.
News has been interesting as of late. TIME Magazine ran this great analysis of how Tina Fey's version of Sarah Palin is more real that Sarah Palin herself, which certainly makes for an interesting perspective. You have to admit that she is really, really good at it and people are remembering her version of Palin more than anything else they see on the media.
Then there's the grand news of the State of Connecticut putting an end to a ban on gay marriages, thus joining the states of Massachusetts and California as the few in the US that allow for gay couples to get married. And yes, I continued to read about it on TIME Magazine and ended up finding this interesting piece by John Cloud about how we need to get past the courts in order to make true headway for gay rights in this regard. While it's a bit of a rather strong view, he does have a point. We can't keep fighting this battle one court at a time.
I'm watching the season premiere of Pushing Daisies right now since I tired of Mary Poppins and already finished Star Wars Clone Wars episode 3. My couch potato-ness is beginning to kick in. Oh dear.

There's certainly a power in Ham Sandwiches, hehe
