00562: Post-Migration Checklist
Today is going to be a tough shift for me given I was awake more than I should have been. However, at least we got a whole lot done.

First off, the hunt for a new ISP continues. With both myDestiny Internet and Sky Broadband out of the picture, cable internet no longer seems to be an option. I'm now aiming for Globe Broadband, which is DSL, but I need to visit a business center directly in order to verify coverage area. Bugger. PLDT is last on my list and a quick inquiry at an application kiosk at Cash & Carry revealed that they don't want to offer data-only plans (dry-loop DSL) and will only offer bundled options with landline service. They're also trying to push SmartBro Wireless internet on me, but I'm not yet willing to throw in the towel for a corded solution. I also stubbornly refuse to get a PLDT landline since I'm enjoying my Bayantel Wireless landline phone too much.

SkyCable came today and setup our cable TV service. Yes, I am a legal subscriber. Sadly, we really are outside of the digital coverage area so we had to surrender our DigiBox to the installers. They managed to install the service without drilling holes anywhere, but the cable wire does run around the door since no cable TV provisions were arranged for within the unit during the renovation. Oh well. Sadly, this all happened between 2 and 3 in the afternoon, which naturally fucked up my sleeping schedule for the day.

To make the most of things, we headed over to Cash & Carry together with Ryan to pick up a few more items we realized we needed for the unit. Top on the list was lining material for the cabinets, but naturally we ended up picking up a few more items like something to put on the kitchen sink to give the dishes and glasses better grip and more stuff to make the place smell a bit better.

We then swung by Anson's and finally put a deposit down for the Elba electric stove we've been looking at. It has a nice black finish, four hot plates and an oven to boot. Brian |[info]kitchengod| is already thinking of cooking a chicken or a turkey for New Year's or something. Exciting! We also picked up a rice cooker while we were there given my limited argument that it would involve less electricity to use a rice cooker to compared to cooking it using the new range when it comes it. And thus the stalemate over whether or not we should own a rice cooker has been broken after more than five years of stove top rice. I'm not complaining, just making an observation.

The new kitty cage also arrived right before I left for work and it looks great. Sure, it costs a ridiculous amount of money but the aluminum material is light and sturdy, the floor panels can be removed for cleaning and it has a second level platform so the cats have a little variety now. I can't wait to get it set up tomorrow so they won't be all crammed up in the old cage that has been their temporary home since the move.

Still left on the week's to-do list is to settle the ISP concern, find a new laundry service, put the clothes away and of course clear more boxes of general, everyday items. It looks like the 8 boxes of books will remain packed up for a while until we resolve the shelving concerns. Oh, and we need to settle on a final name for the flat! For some reason, Morrigan (the Celtic deity and not the Darkstalkers character) keeps popping up as one of the prime suggestions.

Still, I feel great about this whole move. Even if it means we won't be going out anytime soon. =P

True enough, it's going to take more than a new president to change things.

My oven (it's MINE, MINE, MINE, i don't care what people say) has served me well since I was 16. 10 years next March! Works like a dream. Still working well. Luvvit. Am pretty sure your Elba is a good investment.

Also, the Morrigan is a trickster/capricious goddess. Do you really want the feminine embodiment of chaos to be your home's namesake?

Then again... :P

We're kinda aiming for a stronger name this time around. Matilda was too nice and look what happened to her, hehe.

I'm a big fan of Elba too - Mom has a great 4-burner at home that's still pretty good apart from needing better care. =P
