Today's the birthday of Miggi / Migoyski, originally an LJ friend who's pretty much migrated to Multiply. Happy Birthday, Miggi!

Well, Barrack Obama is the 44th President of the United States of America. The FCC has ruled that the "white spaces" may now be used for commercial purposes. And while all this was happening, California Proposition 8 won and their state constitution now limits the definition of marriage to that being the union of a man and a woman. Oh well, you can't win them all.

In much brighter news, a few minutes after I posted yesterday's entry, we got a call from our friend Ryan, who had been following up with the condominium that we were interested in since it's the unit right next door to there's. Surprisingly enough, it turns out that we were approved for the lease! It was both good and bad news since (1) we really like the unit but (2) it'll really strain our resources to come up with the initial payment. After a few back and forth calls to clarify things, we ultimately determined the initial fees that needed to be paid and how to go about things so it looks like we just need the money to be all set.

This is where Brian |[info]kitchengod| and his little telethon of sorts really comes to the rescue given the support of some really close friends who pledged amounts to help us out. With all the amounts put together, it looks like we'll be able to come up with the initial deposit after all and this is without needing to cancel any of my insurance policies to boot! I love it how life just pulls through for you when the going gets tough and I become all the more grateful for how amazing our friends really are. Thanks you guys!

So now we just need to actually collect the money, make the final payment next week and of course settle things with our present land lord. Once all that gets done, we'll be pretty much set to start moving into our new place. In addition, it looks like we'll be able to move the cats over as long as we assure the owner that we'll take good care of the unit, and thus Brian and I are now toying with the idea of a really big cage like the ones they have in some Cartimar pet shops with all the ramps and stuff so the cats remain contained and yet still have room to maneuver. It's just a thought for now - I'm not even sure how we'll get a steady supply of pet food over there. Decisions, decisions...

I'm pretty excited about the move and Brian is as well, perhaps even more so. This should be an interesting change in our lives indeed.

In the US, November 4 is Election Day and a lot of things will be decided. They'll finally determine if Obama or McCain will become the next president of the United States of America. The FCC will vote on whether or not the "white spaces" between the airwaves should be made free. And Californians will decide on Proposition 8 and whether or not same-sex couples have the right to marry. Oh what fun.

My apologies for last night's rushed entry. I really didn't have enough time to write something more proper. The bulk of the reasons were already stated but I need to go on and explore certain aspects a bit more.

First, there's the decision about the unit. After we stayed the night at John's apartment in order to catch the building administrators in the morning to view the unit next door, we certainly our efforts were more than worth it. While the one-bedroom unit is more expensive than the other one in the Legaspi area that we were looking for, it's just so pretty! For the Windsor Tower unit, we were considering paying the price because of its location and security. In this case, it's more because of the unit itself, the proximity of friends being right across the hall and of course security once more. Words fail me in terms of describing the unit at this point.

So we filled out the leasee application form and are now waiting for the response from the condo owner. Hopefully we'll merit a positive response and he'll say yes to us getting the place. That leaves me with 2 other problems - the first is the money for the down payment and the second is our cats. In terms of the money, our shared 13th month payout are too far down the road to wait for and thus we need to find money now. I've started talks with my insurance agent about canceling one of my life insurance policies that I'm paying for in order to get some of the money back and that should be just enough to cover the initial costs for this place. If there were any other way like being able to borrow money from several friends, that would be awesome but I can't think of people who'd be liquid enough to lend us money. Would you guys happen to know anyone willing to share the wealth? It seems like such a waste to cancel the policy after paying off the premium for so many years, but then what can you do, eh? The other consideration is that there's a big chance we'll need to give up the cats, Smoke and Mist. Does anyone want to adopt two Persians? I won't even charge you - I'd just be happy to know they're in good hands.

So we're waiting for two calls - one in order to get word about whether or not we've been approved to lease the unit and another to determine if killing my insurance policy is really an option at this point.

I'm doing all this since I admit that I like the unit but beyond that I know that Brian |[info]kitchegod| really wants it. In moments like these I try to look into his eyes and read what he's feeling. When we viewed the unit and I could clearly see how much he wanted this apartment and when see that look of excitement and eagerness I know there's no question in my mind that it's the right thing to do and I need to do everything that I can to give him what he wants. That's happened a number of times over the years and I've yet to regret any of those instances just yet.

Ah love.
